This guide will walk you through step-by-step in setting up your replacement VFD. It is important that you follow this guide closely. DO NOT USE START UP ASSISTANT!! NEVER USE START UP ASSISTANT!!!

VFD Compressor Shutdown Option

NOTE: It is necessary to perform field modifications to shut down the compressors when the VFD has a fault or alarm. This procedure should be performed on all units that contain an ABB VFD.

If you did use CARRIER START UP ASSISTANT go to 9902 and set it to anything except HVAC DEFAULT and SAVE IT. Then return to 9902 and set it back to HVAC Default and SAVE IT AGAIN. Then follow the instructions that follow

VFD PARAMETER SETUP

Please follow step-by-step and check the boxes as you go so no critical steps are missed.

VFD PARAMETER SETUP – Understanding how to access and alter parameters

1. Ensure no inputs from thermostat or controls during process, (Example: remove red wire to the thermostat).
2. With keypad attached, power up the equipment.
3. DO NOT USE START UP ASSISTANT!! NEVER USE START UP ASSISTANT!!!
4. Press the “OFF” button on the keypad.
5. Press the “MENU” button, (soft key under the word “MENU”).
6. Use the “up/down arrow” buttons to navigate through different options.
7. Highlight “PARAMETERS” and press “ENTER”.
8. The display will show a series of 2-digit numbers on the left side of the screen. (These are the parameter group numbers, “PAR GROUPS” is displayed on keypad)
9. Highlight the appropriate group number and press “SEL”. (Example: 9905 : the first 2 digits is group number 99, and the second 2 digits is the parameter number, 05)
10. Highlight the correct parameter number, then press “EDIT”.
11. Use the “up/down arrow” buttons to change the setting and press “SAVE”.
12. Repeat steps 10 – 12 until all parameters on list have been set or verified. (Make sure to press “SAVE” after any changes.)

Final Steps

Testing Operation *

13. Once complete, press “EXIT” until “MENU” appears on bottom right.
14. Push the “AUTO” button, “Auto” should appear on top left.
15. Jump R to G and the blower should energize, keypad will display 40 HZ at 66.7% speed. Jump R to Y2 and it should go to 100% and 60 HZ.
16. Replace the R wire.
17. Test the system in all modes of operation to verify fan operation.
SYSTEM IS NOW READY FOR NORMAL OPERATION.
